I have lot many friends who are of my age. Oh it is natural. It is indeed a great pain to see my friends who were with so much of enthusiasm, with so much of energy, who were laughing, making fun and leading a wonderful life being reduced to persons without any of their original qualities.
Comparatively I have found myself better. The reasons, that I can think of for this, is my passion for pleasure and my association with younger generation. Thanks to my son and his friends who have helped me to live well.
Passion for pleasure is the secret for remaining young as told by Oscar Wilde.
The greatest charm of youth is it can smile without a reason. The tragedy of the old age is not old age but comparing with the one who is young and who is not available.
Life consists of a road which starts from birth to death with several stations consisting of childhood, adolescence, youth, middle age and old age. Each one of us is in one station or the other. Each has to reach the last station, the station of old age.
It is better to prepare oneself to that last station so that, in the last station also one can live and not merely exist.
If you want to live in the last station you must have passion for pleasure and continuous association with younger generation.
Nothing succeeds like excess. Moderation is fatal. A pre-conceived notion of right and wrong shows arrested intellectual development. The conduct of people from young age should be with original thinking and without being controlled by concepts of right and wrong as prescribed by the society.
Right and wrong should not be a pre-conceived notion. It should be arrived at based on objective analysis by every individual. If you are not hurting someone else, what you do is your choice, your right and no one else has a right to call it right or wrong. Identically you also have no right to call someone else’s action as right or wrong, if they are not hurting someone else.
If you prescribe right and wrong by yourself and if you live for pleasure, being in search of pleasure, having a passion for pleasure and if you have company of younger generation, your last station of old age is likely to pass without much of annoyance.
Much of annoyance not only to you but also it would avoid you being annoyance to others.

If you are very much controlled by morality as prescribed by the society and if you have lived as per the morality prescribed by the society in all its rigors, you would be unnaturally virtuous.

Oscar Wilde wrote as follows:
“I never come across anyone in whom the moral sense was dominant who was not heartless, cruel, vindictive, log-stupid, and entirely lacking in the smallest sense of humanity. Moral people, as they are termed, are simple beasts. I would sooner have fifty unnatural vices than one unnatural virtue”.
I have found that people who are having dominant moral sense as prescribed by the society, are always of the kind Oscar Wilde has written

  1. I am confused by what you mean by "passion for pleasure".

Pleasure is so short lived that you will have to think of a million things that pleasure you. Pleasure looses its charm if you over do it.

Passion, on the other hand, is something that you can do over and over again without getting bored by it and which will give you as much happiness as it ever did, if not more. Few of us know what we are passionate about.

I think seeking pleasure all the time is impractical and immature.
